Hurricane Ian Rally In Downtown Fort Myers
A Hurricane Ian rally in downtown Fort Myers is set for Wednesday, October 12th, at the Caloosa Sound Amphitheater. Spearheaded by the Luminary Hotel & Co., the intention is to bring the community together with resources, opportunities and food in the wake of Ian.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida will be distributing food kits while supplies last. Each kit contains about 15-20 pounds of food, a mix of shelf-stable dry goods.
“This rally will facilitate the distribution of food and other resources, but it will also be a welcome break for so many who’ve been working nonstop in the recovery effort,” said Joe Collier, President and Founder of Mainsail Lodging & Development. “Even in the face of such overwhelming loss, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the indomitable spirit of this community.”
The Downtown Community Rally & BBQ is a free event. It kicks off at noon and goes until 4pm. The Caloosa Sound Amphitheater is in Centennial Park, across from the new hotel.
Rally activities
Families can enjoy a hot BBQ meal courtesy of Cheney Brothers, Inc. Kids can get in a round of wiffle ball with the Minnesota Twins; and there will be music. In addition, several community nonprofit organizations will be on hand offering information on services, resources, and a variety of opportunities for those in need.
Following the rally, Luminary is hosting a “Raise The Roof for Hurricane Ian” event at Beacon Social Drinkery, the hotel’s rooftop bar. It’s a fund raiser for Harry Chapin. 100% of the proceeds go the food bank to help Southwest Floridian’s impacted by the storm. The event runs from 4pm to 10pm.
