Following the ending of her engagement to Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka, Nia Long posted a message regarding their past relationship. “The best revenge, is no revenge, Move on. Be happy,” read a quote the Best Man actress posted to her Instagram Saturday (April 29).

The former Celtics coach was suspended for a year following the uncovering of an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer. The incident led to his split from Long whom he had been dating since 2009 and were engaged in 2015.

Udoka spoke out about the relationship for the first time in a press conference last week. “I released a statement months ago when everything happened and apologized to a lot of people for the tough position I put them in,” he said.

“I spent this last offseason working on myself in a lot of different ways, improving in areas, and it gave me a chance to sit back, reflect and grow,” he said. “And I think that’ll make me a better coach and overall a better leader.”

He continued, “Just having that time off and really a full understanding of how many people you impact by a poor decision where you start with the ownership and accountability.”

The NBA coach said that he will not be a hypocrite and “take responsibility” for his actions. “I preach that to the players and so I have to take responsibility for my part in it,” Udoka said.

He added: “You can grow from adversity and I think I’ve done that this year if you spend it in the right direction or take the right steps.”

He ended saying “the matter has been resolved” and that he “can’t really speak much about it” further.”

Long spoke to The Hollywood Reporter back in December about the incident.  She emphasized how learning about his infidelity was “devasting” to her and their son.

“I think the most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son’s face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public,” Long said of her and Udoka’s 11-year-old son Kez. “It was devastating, and it still is. He still has moments where it’s not easy for him. If you’re in the business of protecting women — I’m sorry, no one from the Celtics organization has even called to see if I’m OK, to see if my children are OK. It’s very disappointing.”

“I literally felt like my heart had jumped out of my body,” she said. “And then what I found was this tribe of women and men who were standing up for me in a way that felt like I was in this bubble of protection, and that was very comforting.”

Udoka has since “moved on” career-wise as he was officially announced as the Houston Rockets head coach last week.
