According to a new story in US News, Naples is the 6th Best Place in the U.S. to retire. This is an annual list that takes into consideration all kinds of data.
The researchers take a two pronged approach. First of all, they gather data from places such as the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, and the U.S. Department of Labor. They also have an internal list of resources to tap into.
Next, they look at five indexes. They include job market and value index which includes affordable housing. An interesting consideration when taking into account Naples recently ranked as the 5th highest home rental market here. In fact, most of Southwest Florida has seen inflated housing costs recently.
Also considered in the ranking are desirability and net migration. The latter looks at whether people are moving away from the metro area of a city.
Finally, there is a public survey. Votes came in from people across the country. The people participating were asked to rank the most important things the looked at when trying to decide where to live.
Additional Florida cities rank in best place in the U.S. to retire
Florida did quite well overall in the report. Southwest Florid cities that didn’t make the top ten include Sarasota at #11. Also noted for good places to retire in the Sunshine State are Melbourne at #12. Next is Lakeland at #13. Rounding out the top 20, Ocala ranks #16.
The ranking comes at an interesting time. In this story, many of those who have relocated to Southwest Florida following the pandemic are questioning their decisions. Why? Because of Hurricane Ian. Ian or not, Southwest Florida is still paradise and it will be better than ever once recovery efforts are complete.
