The world’s most beautiful baby names for boys and girls according to science have been revealed.
If you have a baby, you know that picking out their name can be very exciting. It can also be nerve-wracking because you want to make sure it’s the perfect name. Also, not one you’ll regret as they grow, or that they’ll hate you for as they get older. But do you think about WHY you like it?
Have you ever met someone named “Matt” and said, “Wow . . . what a beautiful name?” That’s not a knock on Matts. I ask, because it really might be the MOST beautiful name in the English language.
A baby website called My1stYears.com had a linguistics expert look at 400 of the most popular baby names in the United States. They used data from a study done in 2018 looking at which types of sounds we find most beautiful or pleasing. According to the results, the most beautiful name for a boy is “Matthew” and for girls, it’s “Sophia.”
According to the website: “Principles of linguistics such as iconicity (or ‘sound symbolism’) and the research emerging from this field reveals that some words – and therefore names – sound better than others. Though these findings aren’t universal, there is a wealth of research out there to support that meaningful associations with names are shared across languages around the world.”
They broke them up between the U.K. and the U.S.
