DDG Announces Split From Halle Bailey, Remain ‘Best Friends’
DDG and Halle Bailey are parting ways. On Thursday evening (Oct. 3), DDG revealed their breakup in an Instagram Story post.
“After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” he began. “This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared.”
The rapper and Halle Bailey went public with their relationship in January 2022. They welcomed their son, Halo, in late 2023 and announced his birth in January. In July, the couple gave fans their first glimpse of Halo by sharing photos of him during a trip to Italy.
Despite the split, DDG insists they will stay close. “Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true,” he continued. “We are still best friends and adore each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we’ve built and the beautiful moments we’ve shared.”
Breakup rumors first surfaced in April when DDG and Halle reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram and removed some joint photos, according to Elle.
That same month, Halle opened up about her “severe” postpartum depression. “It’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out,” she said on Snapchat. “When I look at him, I cry because of how special he is.”
More recently, the now-former couple attended Usher’s Past Present Future Tour in Los Angeles last week. They were front row to Usher’s concert, where the R&B singer jokingly tried to feed Bailey a cherry, but DDG grabbed it and fed it to her instead. The two shared a laugh, and Bailey was spotted holding some UshBucks.
This Usher concert was just the latest outing for the pair, who also attended his “My Way” residency in Las Vegas in 2022, which was among their first publicized dates.
DDG and Halle are asking for fans’ support during this time. “As we navigate this transition, we ask for your understanding and support,” DDG concluded. “Thank you for your love and encouragement.”
Fans headed to Reddit to express their opinions on the breakup. “Y’know what. At least the message is nice (truly, the least he could have done, and he did). Wish them well as co-parents,” one person commented. Others speculated that it might be a stunt, with one saying, “I fully believe he is trolling unfortunately he would not be kind if they broke up.” Another person added, “He’s too much of a troll for me to believe him off the bat… but I hope my girl is free.”
