Times Square Clock Returns to Fort Myers Beach for Holiday Season
A beloved landmark made its way back to Fort Myers Beach this week as workers put the Times Square clock back in place after removing it to keep it safe from hurricanes Helene and Milton. Its return comes just in time for the town’s popular poinsettia tree lighting on Dec. 9.
Town manager Andrew Hyatt says they timed the clock’s return to line up with the upcoming celebration, set for 5 to 7 p.m. Next to the turquoise clock stands a beautiful poinsettia tree, adding color to the square.
“We wanted to make sure it was put back in time for that,” Hyatt told WINK News. “It really seems to be just a staple of the community and just a landmark that everybody looks forward to seeing, and a photo op and things like that. So we’re just excited to get it back up.”
Workers moved the metal structure to a safe place before the storms hit the coast. This quick thinking saved it from strong winds that could have wrecked it.
Now both special features are back in their spots by the water. Everything’s ready for the Dec. 9 celebration, which kicks off the winter season in this beach town.
