It might come as a surprise but these places are more than the best Southwest Florida cities for allergy sufferers. They are also among the best cities in the nation for anyone suffering from one particular allergy. You may remember this report which ranked Cape Coral and Sarasota tops for general weed and pollen allergies. However, there is ONE allergen that scores remarkably low in the Cape, as well as Fort Myers, Naples and Marco Island. It is grass. You might think that strange considering all of the golf courses and gated communities full of homes with pristine lawns.

However, it’s true according to the folks at Lawn Love. They say anyone suffering from grass allergies should fare quite well in Southwest Florida because there are so many sandy and beachy areas here. To come up with these rankings, officials compared 131 metro areas based on allergy risk, exacerbators, and access to detection and treatment resources. They also considered grass pollen forecasts,  and lawn mowing frequency, among other things.

Next, the worst cities for allergy sufferers

If you’re allergy tests come back positive for grass, you might want to stay away from Springfield, Massachusetts. That city ranked number one in this survey. It was followed by Wichita (KS), New Haven-Milford (CT), Hartford-East Harford-Middletown (CT), and Modesto, CA. Modesto ranked in the top five due in large part to the summer wind speeds which can churn up allergens.

If you have been thinking about a summer picnic but have also been holding off because of grass allergies, would appear that might not be as big of a problem as once feared.
